Common causes of sleep deprivation or sleep loss
Working Life – people who do shift work disrupt their sleep-wake cycles on a regular basis.
Environmental Factors – noisy location or snoring sleep partner can cause you lose sleep.
Lifestyle - some people’s habits are disruptive; for example, drinking coffee or smoking cigarettes close to bedtime
Illness or sleep disorders – such as sleep apnoea, snoring
Medications - some drugs used to treat disorders such as epilepsy or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can cause insomnia.
Sleep disorders include:
Insomnia, the feeling of not getting enough sleep.
Obstructive sleep apnoea, a respiratory condition stopping the breathing and deprives the body of oxygen. This condition therefore causes tiredness in daytime.
Sleep walking, causing the person to get out of bed and walk around during the night.
